Every part of American life has been affected by the coronavirus. I think we understand now more than ever the importance of self care. Due to school closings and requests for people to work from home, family space may be a little more crowded than usual. In order to keep stress and anxiety levels down here are a few suggestions:
- Follow the CDC guidelines
- Stay informed but try not to over saturate yourself with the news.
- Find one reliable source to get your news from and try not to binge watch.
- A new schedule might require a new routine. Create one that incorporates the entire family…that will address the needs and interests of those who may be spending more time at home.
- If working from home, create a work space with minimal distractions and that is conducive to accomplishing your work goals~you may want to complete your important tasks first*
- Stay active
- Structure your day to include breaks; take a little time out for yourself or do something fun with your children or spouse.
- This may be a good time to binge watch that favorite Netflix series that you haven’t had time to watch, or read that novel that’s been collecting dust on your bed side table.
- Be sure to get plenty of rest. Sleep is one of the best stress and anxiety busters. A nap will help to calm, refresh and restore.
- We are social creatures by nature. Since it has been recommended that we limit our social interactions in large groups; what a great time to utilize our social media tools to stay in touch with family and friends.
- Kids take their cues from you, so establish a dialogue that’s calming, yet open and honest. Be willing to answer their questions and let them voice their concerns.
- Wash your hands.
- Minimize or avoid contact with large groups.
- Stay home if you are sick or not feeling well.
- Pray
In the midst of all that is going on, remember to take care of yourself so you will be better equipped to take care of others. #SelfCare❤️
