You may have seen my post about me publishing my first book: The Business Of A Successful Marriage: Treating Your Marriage Like A Business. I must truly say this was a labor of love and I’m elated to finally have the finished product. The completion of this book was a critical component of my #SelfCare Journey. Let me explain why. Writing a book was a goal that I had for many years. I was not able to accomplish this goal because my focus was on taking care of others and I paid very little attention to my needs, desires or goals. During this time in my life, I was surviving instead of thriving. Once I made the decision to take better care of myself; I decided to make my wants and needs a priority, show up for myself every day and do some of things that made me happy. By practicing self care, I made a conscious decision to set aside time for my writing each day. Doing something that was seemingly very small (scheduling some ME time) allowed me the opportunity to accomplish my goals and be the author and entrepreneur that I am today. Self care is more than just taking care of your physical needs.
- It’s loving yourself enough to make yourself a priority.
- It’s loving yourself enough to find out what you want and need and making sure you get it.
- It’s loving yourself enough to show up for yourself every day and do some of the things that make you happy.
Do you have any dreams or interests that have been put on hold because your focus has been on everyone else but yourself? Do yourself a favor and make some time for “YOU”. Create a daily routine that includes time to address your physical, mental and spiritual needs. #SelfCare is not selfish, it’s the foundation for becoming a better “YOU”. And when you take better care of yourself, you’re in a better position to take care of those around you.
